Description of Physical Characteristics:

Color: Alibates Chert ranges in mottled or variegated with colors from most commonly reds, yellows, and oranges in iron rich areas to blues and dark greens in manganese rich areas.  Burgundy and white variations are commonly called "bacon strip" variety.

Alibates Chert is associated with the Quartermaster Formation.  Primary outcroppings are found throughout the Canadian River Valley of Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and into Colorado.  This material had been found in caches in Nebraska.
